Use this worksheet with esl students! They will listen to the two songs which were nominated for the Oscar! ”Man or Muppet” from the film The Muppets and ”Real In Rio” from the film Rio.
“Man or Muppet” is an Academy Award winning original song from the film The Muppets. The song is sung by Gary and Walter.
During the song Walter sees himself in human form, while Gary sees a Muppet version of himself.
Bret McKenzie was honored with an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Song” on January 24, 2012.
Only one other song was nominated in the category, “Real In Rio” from the film Rio. The Academy Awards were presented on February 26, 2012, and “Man or Muppet” marked the first Oscar win for any Muppet production.

“Real in Rio” is a 2011 song written by Sergio Mendes, Carlinhos Brown, and Siedah Garrett for the Blue Sky Studios film Rio.
In the film, “Real in Rio” is divided in two parts. The first part is played on the first scene and it’s sung by many birds, but is interrupted when poachers came and capture all the birds and Blu falls from his tree after trying to fly for the first time.
The second part is sung by Blu, Jewel, Pedro, Nico and Rafael on the second-last scene of the film. On the soundtrack, the song is complete on one track.
The song was nominated for Best Original Song category at the 84th Academy Awards, but it lost to “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets. (source: wikipedia)
