Let's get this one out of the way first, as it's certainly become the poster child for British sitcoms that a younger generation has turned its back on,

Though you'll remember that even at the time, plenty of people were against Little Britain.

It did the one thing good comedy should never do, punch down, constantly mocking marginalised groups, and often not even setting up real jokes in the process.

It's no surprise that in recent years, both Matt Lucas and David Walliams have apologised for their antics, notably using blackface for entertainment, something they apparently didn't realise was offensive in the golden days of 2003.

The Office.

People aren't saying The Office couldn't be made today for the reasons you might assume.

Indeed, both the UK and US versions are still hugely popular seminal comedies.

But The Office was conceived to be a relatable look at dull office jobs, and jobs like that are getting increasingly out of reach today.

For younger audiences, The Office seems removed from reality, and the world it was fondly poking fun at is no longer so universal, especially in the wake of the pandemic.

We've got access to the internet, yeah?

But it is not censored.

Is that a good or bad thing?

So in that way, it's lucky The Office came along when it did, arriving long before the advent of remote work, and the endless distractions of social media.

Makeover shows in general have aged very badly, with lots of them taking people with low self-esteem and telling them they need irreversible cosmetic surgery, all while being televised.

Ten years younger is no exception, as presenter Nikki Hamilton-Jones finds people who look older than they are and breaks them down, before presenting them with a new wardrobe that absolutely doesn't work.

It has, however, been relaunched by Channel 5, but the new version is very different and far kinder.

The premise is that whatever celebrity CBBC could get its hands on has to be kept hidden in a family home for days, with one of the parents unaware that this grown adult is hanging around in their house and playing strange games with their children.

Yes, today it sounds like a safeguarding nightmare, but the Beeb got over 40 episodes out of this premise.

Mini Pops.

Much like Hide Her in the House, it's baffling that this concept ever got greenlit.

Appearing in the 80s, the people behind it have said they were very surprised that it got so much backlash when it was broadcast.

Singing I love rock and roll, but another time in a jukebox baby.

It was just a simple show where kids would dress up as their favourite pop stars and sing their songs, except lots of those songs and costumes ended up being too provocative given the kids' ages.

A little sunshine, a sea of gladness, to wash away all the tears of sadness.

People were up in arms, with lots writing in angrily to write a reply, and only 6 episodes were aired.

But it continued for a while afterwards, with a series of Mini Pops Kids Albums.

Blind Date.

Well, somebody has to with you around.

Like The Office, there's nothing particularly controversial about Blind Date.

In fact, it's still a hilarious and iconic piece of British pop culture.

But it just doesn't work in the modern age, as shown by the failed attempts to bring it back and update it.

Even in the early 2000s, the format was dying, and viewership flagging, leading to Cilla Black's spectacular announcement that she was quitting.

Now, with so many big budget dating shows all used as launching points for influencer careers, something as humble and genuine as Blind Date wouldn't take off.

Which is sad.

Now we have to have more outlandish gimmicks and more supermodels to care a jot about a dating show.

Fat Families.

Watch out, fat families.

It's time to get off your wobbly bums and melt that lard.

Like 10 Years Younger, Fat Families is another relic of an age where you could just be absolutely horrible to people on TV, and everybody thought it was fine, because it was in their best interests.

I'm in Telford, Shropshire, and I'm about to meet one of the fattest families I've met in my life.

This series saw Steve Miller tour the country to, essentially, bully overweight people, in the hope that degrading them enough would get them to change their ways.

Watch out, massive fatties.

The lard police are in town.

Unsurprisingly, it never really worked, and even back then, some people were saying that Miller took his insults a bit too far.

The days of non-stop TV shows shaming people like this, with other offenders like Supersized vs Superskinny, and secret eaters among them, are hopefully over.

That guy is pure fat.

Brainiac Science Abuse.

He's come up with this theory that staring at a woman's breasts for 30 minutes is the equivalent of a 30 minute workout.

Was this show about science, or was it about parading scantily clad women around like they're objects?

But many parts of Brainiac, fronted by both Richard Hammond and Vic Reeves, wouldn't fly today.

Meanwhile, the other brother is going to spend 30 minutes over here with these two women.

Now, these women are going to take off their clothes.

It was really the pinnacle of bloke-ish television, with segments about darts, beer, blowing things up, and plenty of euphemisms about its female cast and presenters.

There were whole jokes about a woman in a bikini testing which objects could be flushed down a toilet, Charlotte Hudson testing out how hard various men's things were, and because it was the 2000s, lots of experiments that ended up in caravans being blown up.

Obviously when one guy looks at a lovely, attractive girl, especially with her boobs out, you know, the adrenaline rush will go straight to the head and the body's just going to go into overtime, hormones.

Brass Eye.

In fairness, there were quite a lot of people who were trying to stop Brass Eye from being made even back in the 1990s, as well as trying to get Chris Morris away from television entirely.

What is the true state of Britain?

It's the Moral-mometer now reading less than two morals per head.

Most notable among Morris' enemies was Michael Grade, Channel 4's boss at the time, who found himself the victim of subliminal messages inserted into Brass Eye after he angered Morris.

The broadcaster and entertainer Clive Anderson has been shot dead by television host Noel Edmonds at his house in Cornwall this evening.

Brass Eye probably wouldn't work today because celebrities are much wiser to these types of pranks, and particularly to Chris Morris himself, who is now far more recognisable.

The incident took place at around 7.30 during dinner when Mr Edmonds produced an automatic weapon and began shooting indiscriminately at his guests.

But the original episodes remain extremely fresh, and still, even decades on, ahead of their time.

Well, if you wanted to appear on Channel 4's The Word, you'd have to do something pretty abominable, with the catch that everybody in the country would see whatever it was, and would never look at you the same way again.

And it wasn't just the public doing insane things on TV, but all the celebrity guests too, who appeared on the show often drunk and gave once in a lifetime performances.

The show was wildly popular and totally outrageous, with one convicted serial killer, Dennis Nilsen, apparently being a fan.

Earlier this month, thousands of the fans gathered in Manchester to pay homage to the Smiths.

Well, as a band, they may well be finished now, but as a religion, they could be off to a good start.

Eventually, it got so shocking that it had to end, but it's got a special place in TV history.
