Welcome to The Wrap Up, where we break down the biggest stories of the week that you might have missed but definitely need to know.

Busy, busy news cycle this week, but it's March Madness, baby.

And if you can't tell by the Alabama Crimson lighting, I'm pretty happy about it.

the pullover too.

For the first time in program history, the University of Alabama is the number one seed heading into the tournament after an incredible season led by Brandon Miller and my friend and arguably the best basketball coach in America.

And yes, I'm biased, Nate Owens.

Now the tournament kicked off yesterday, which meant brackets were due and I hope that's working out a lot better for y'all than it is for me.

For James O'Keefe, the fight is continuing on.

After a period of conflict between O'Keefe and the Project Veritas board of directors and James' subsequent departure from the organization, O'Keefe is back.

On Wednesday, he announced his return with the launch of the O'Keefe Media Group, or OMG for short.

Clever guy there.

Taking on a very Shakespearean tone, O'Keefe tweeted, quote, The Ides of March have come, and we launch today.

In his announcement, O'Keefe pledged to build a, quote, army of citizen journalists expanding across the country, every state house, every city council, every school board, and everywhere people are conspiring to keep themselves in power, practice favoritism, or line their pockets with your tax dollars.

O'Keefe has described the business plan as, quote, Uber for journalism.

And we wish him the best of luck in this new endeavor.

The country certainly needs it.

Well, this next story may sound like a scene from Top Gun.

It risks sending the U.S.

even deeper into the danger zone.

On Tuesday, it was reported that a Russian fighter jet collided with a U.S.

surveillance drone over the Black Sea, heightening tensions in an already fraught relationship between Washington and the Kremlin.

Now, the Black Sea is the body of water bordering both Ukraine and Russia.

It's strategically very important to Moscow.

And a Russian official predicted Monday that the Black Sea will become Russia, saying, quote, we have it, but it will be totally ours.

Now, since the encounter, the United States Air Force accused Russia of having acted in a, quote, environmentally unsound manner.

Whatever that means.

Now, there are conflicting accounts of what exactly happened here, of the collision altogether between the MQ Nine Reaper drone and the Russian Su XVII fighter jet.

And of course, each side simply blamed the other.

Now, on Thursday, the U.S.

military released declassified video it says shows a Russian fighter jet harassing and colliding with an American drone.

Now, Basin reports the Russian jets flew around and in front of the drone several times for thirty to forty minutes, dumped aviation fuel onto the drone, were striking its propeller, causing it to lose power and crash.

Now, Russia, for their part, denied having come into contact with the drone, stating that it crashed by itself without their help.

Now, Russia has announced its intention, though, to recover the drone and study its technological capabilities, which, needless to say, is not really great news.

Now, another wave of layoffs is coming for Big Tech with Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to shave off another ten thousand jobs from the company.

This decision by Facebook comes after eleven thousand employees were laid off just a few months ago, which at the time was thirteen percent of its global workforce.

Now, anonymous sources quoted by Bloomberg in this new round of cuts, they're saying that it's being driven by declining advertising revenues, while it refocuses again on its metaverse ambitions.

Now, similar layoffs have been seen throughout the tech space and become even more frequent as the days go on.

But some have even said that they've been inspired by Elon Musk, who immediately sought to downsize Twitter upon his acquisition of the app by fifty percent after discovering a severe amount of company bloat that he described as unsustainable.

Lots of people doing a whole lot of nothing and making six figures to do it.

Not a bad gig, I guess.

Now, eighty three billion dollars.

That's the amount of money received by BLM from corporate America.

And for some perspective here, ExxonMobil's full year twenty two earnings were a meager fifty five point seven billion dollars.

British Petroleum reported record annual profits in the year and made less than twenty eight billion dollars.

And how much of that eighty three billion dollars actually went to black America?

Well, I checked my bank account this morning and I seem to be missing a whole lot of zeros.

Now, all jokes aside, these findings uncovered by the Claremont Institute were pretty wild.

Nearly every company that you can think of, all names that you all know, contributed to the cause that helped burn down most major cities in America just a few summers ago.

Allstate gave seven point seven million American Express gave fifty million and Blackrock Blackrock eight hundred and ten million dollars.

Another contributor to the cause, another name you all likely know, especially after this week, Silicon Valley Bank.

Which brings us to your news to know.

Silicon Valley Bank, after what appears to be a severe case of financial mismanagement, found itself at one point over the weekend, unable to guarantee the funds of its account holders, sending shockwaves, not only throughout Silicon Valley in the world of tech, but across the entire country.

It was the second largest bank failure in American history, an event not seen since two thousand and eight.

So how exactly did this happen?

Now, the first thing you need to know is that most of the bank's customers were venture capitalists.

hedge funds, and startups, which put huge amounts of money into SVB.

So, ninety percent of the deposits were not covered by the FDIC.

The bank, at a time when interest rates were low, put a great deal of money into long term bonds, but when interest rates rose, bond prices fell, creating their investment leading to a one point eight billion dollar loss for the bank.

And once folks got wind of this, investor confidence in the stock created, with the bank losing a hundred and sixty billion dollars in value in just twenty four hours.

But bonds weren't the only bad investment this bank was making.

They also contributed millions of dollars to BLM and a plethora of other social justice aligned initiatives, commonly referred to as ESG.

It appears they found out the hard way that Woke simply doesn't pay the bills.
