A1
  • adverb
  • Word indicating the negative
  • (Used to form the negative of verbs)
  • Subtitles section
  • It's just painful, isn't it?
  • Like, is anyone else just completely and utterly exasperated with the way that football is going?
  • Like, football now, it feels like it's just all about money and politics and money and politics and basically now, it's got to the stage where if you aren't backed by a state, you haven't got a chance.
  • That's genuinely how it feels and I am just so worn out by this.
  • Can I ask you a favour?
  • If you agree with me, if you have any empathy to what I'm saying, if you relate to the words that I'm saying here, if you are totally and utterly worn out by the direction that football is going in, can you give this video a like,
  • Please?
  • I just want to monitor it.
  • I just want to see, sort of percentage-wise, how many people watch this video and how many people relate to the words I'm saying here because I am struggling with it.
  • I really am.
  • When I think about everything that football should be, football should represent, it isn't this.
  • Like, honestly, if you were to make a list of everything that football means to you, the moments, the euphoria, the community, the friendships, whatever it is, I guarantee you that the state of Saudi Arabia is not on that list.
  • And it isn't about the state being Saudi Arabia.
  • It's about any state.
  • Like, for what it's worth, I wouldn't want Chelsea to be owned by the British state.
  • I don't think state ownership in football is good.
  • I don't like the links between Chelsea and now what we're finding out is the Saudi PIF have a huge impact in Chelsea because they are massive donators to Clearlake.
  • It's just such pollution.
  • And it's the same everywhere you look.
  • The biggest club in the country, Manchester United, are about to be owned by the state of Qatar.
  • I had a wonderful time in Qatar.
  • This isn't about Qatar per se.
  • They're going to be brilliant.
  • They're going to be a brilliant football team.
  • But this isn't it.
  • This isn't what it's about.
  • And you look in that direction, you've got the biggest club in the country, British institution like Manchester United, state owned.
  • You've got the treble winners, the greatest football team that I have ever seen.
  • Arguably the greatest football team that anyone has ever seen.
  • State owned.
  • You've got Newcastle United.
  • State owned.
  • And I now think that to compete, to genuinely compete, you are going to have to be state owned.
  • And there is now a link between Chelsea.
  • People often accuse me of hypocrisy.
  • You know where Chelsea...
  • I don't want this for Chelsea.
  • These links between Todd Boley, Clearlake and the PIF, I do not like it.
  • It feels corrupt.
  • Even if it's not, it feels like it's unjust.
  • Chelsea getting into a situation where we can recoup huge amounts of money for our dud transfers via some friendly relations that we've cultivated with PIF, feels unjust.
  • The PIF has nationalised all of the football teams in Saudi.
  • We are linked to the nationalisation process and we can therefore offset some of our huge transfer errors.
  • The idiotic decisions made by Todd Boley signing the likes of Kalidu Kula Bali.
  • Absolutely ridiculous.
  • Absolutely ridiculous signing.
  • Signed him, we're now not going to have to pay any sort of consequence of that because we can offset the signing.
  • We will be able to offload a lot of our dud players, a lot of our dud signings because of a nice relationship, a friendly relationship that has been cultivated by Boley and the PIF.
  • And it's not only players going there.
  • Like I saw a link between Newcastle United and Marc Cucurello.
  • Cucurello was a dreadful signing.
  • There is a video on this very channel where I state quite how ridiculous that signing was.
  • When everybody was telling me that Cucurello was going to be a fantastic signing, there is a video on this channel where I was saying Chelsea must not sign Cucurello.
  • It's a dreadful signing.
  • He is now potentially going to go to Newcastle.
  • And it feels like it has all become about the money.
  • Like the PIF, Saudi's sovereign fund, own Newcastle United and they are huge investors in Clearlake.
  • So Chelsea and Newcastle United, there is a link.
  • Does that not impact sporting competition?
  • It just doesn't make any sort of sense to me.
  • Everything that football is supposed to be, this isn't it.
  • Like where is football going?
  • I just don't understand what we are trying to achieve with what we are doing at the moment.
  • Like, you know, it's so strange as well because when Chelsea was sold, we were told explicitly that it wasn't Russian money.
  • Remember, that was the issue.
  • It was not Russian money.
  • We were led to believe that it was American money.
  • You know, Bowley, Clearlake, they passed all their fit and proper person tests and now it transpires.
  • I think people have been aware of this more, you know.
  • I think I'm late to the party here.
  • I think this has been revealed by some very good journalists a long time ago and for some reason it wasn't necessarily flagged as it should have been.
  • But there's a huge amount of money from Saudi in Clearlake's bid.
  • It just doesn't make any sense to me.
  • Like it really, really doesn't.
  • And I don't understand what direction football is heading in if this is the way that it's going.
  • Like basically Chelsea have been mismanaged.
  • Todd Bowley being sporting director led to some terrible decisions being made and when you make terrible decisions and you are at the top of an institution like Chelsea, there should be some penalties.
  • Those penalties will come on the pitch.
  • Chelsea now will totally get out of jail.
  • And look, of course, as a Chelsea fan I'm pleased about this but what does it represent?
  • What does it mean?
  • Like we made some terrible decisions and ultimately we are going to get away with it because we're going to be able to offload a lot of those bad decisions to Saudi.
  • We will somehow come out financially on top.
  • And look, if you're a Chelsea fan
  • I'm sure you think this is good.
  • We're getting away with it.
  • Great news.
  • We've managed to dodge a bullet.
  • But this isn't good news.
  • This isn't good news for football.
  • This isn't how football should be.
  • Chelsea and Newcastle shouldn't have this link.
  • This isn't what we're in it for.
  • The beautiful moments of football will be affected by this.
  • There will be problems further down the road because of things like this.
  • This is a pollution of money in the game and it really does need to be looked at.
  • This is terrible for sporting competition.
  • It's terrible for the pyramid.
  • You know the sporting pyramid, the football pyramid.
  • When the Super League nearly happened, everybody was so desperate to protect the integrity of the pyramid.
  • This is doing huge damage to that.
  • Chelsea and Newcastle, we sell them Cucurella.
  • You can see how obvious this is.
  • This is glaringly...
  • But look, you've just got to look at the numbers.
  • Todd Boley and his crew, they got a 900 million dollar investment by the PIF who own Saudi.
  • Sorry, who own Newcastle.
  • The PIF who own Newcastle gave Chelsea a 900 million pound investment.
  • Like, this is honestly ridiculous and basically, off the back of that, we're going to sell some of our unwanted players to the Saudi League for massive money to clear our FFP.
  • Koulibaly, Mendy, Ziyech, will get what?
  • Over 100 million quid.
  • Nobody in their right mind thinks those players are worth 100 million pound cumulatively.
  • Edouard Mendy is way worse than the keeper that we spent 30 million quid on.
  • So he's obviously not worth anything like that.
  • Hakim Ziyech, good player, loads of potential in his prime.
  • Right, a lot of money there.
  • Koulibaly at the end, absolutely not.
  • Over 100 million pound.
  • How does this make sense?
  • How are people okay with this?
  • But look, Chelsea need to balance the books and if we offload those three, we will reduce the bloated dressing room that we have and we'll do our FFP some good as well.
  • But if you are happy about this, like genuinely happy, if you genuinely think that this is a good thing or good news, I really don't get it.
  • But it does feel like it's the way football's going and maybe we have to make our peace with it.
  • It's just everything I want from football.
  • Those spontaneous moments of euphoria.
  • The joy, the pride in the team, the relations that you can have with the team, the relatability of the team.
  • This just feels so murky.
  • But like I said at the beginning of this video, I am really interested to hear what you have to think.
  • Am I wrong here?
  • Am I up on a high horse I shouldn't be on?
  • If you're a Chelsea fan, are you pleased?
  • Do you think that the money has arrived in Saudi at the perfect time?
  • We've managed to get away with one and ultimately this will do Chelsea Football Club the world of good.
  • For me it feels, it feels just hollow, but very interested to hear your thoughts.
  • As always, thank you for watching.
  • I'll be in the comments the second this video goes live, so let me know what you think.
  • Cheers.
