Fortnite, the popular online video game, is set to undergo significant changes to its in-game currency, V-Bucks. In a surprising email from Epic Games' CEO, it has been revealed that the game has been losing money and immediate actions are required to rectify the situation. However, this does not mean the end of Fortnite. The email provides insights into the financial situation of the game, indicating that Fortnite has been spending more money than it has been making, despite generating billions of dollars in revenue each year. As a consequence, Fortnite had to lay off over 830 employees, resulting in numerous individuals no longer working for Epic Games. Fortnite are about to change V-Bucks forever, and in a shocking email from Epic Games' CEO, it's been revealed that Fortnite has been losing money and big changes have to be actioned immediately.

Thankfully, this does not mean the end of Fortnite, but if we take a closer look at the email sent out, it reveals that Fortnite have been spending more money than they've actually been making.

Despite the fact this game makes billions of dollars a year, the actual money that they were spending still outweighed that.

As a result, Fortnite had to fire over 830 employees.

And I have seen many people that I follow on Twitter say that they no longer work for Epic Games as a last resort for Fortnite to start saving money so the game can become profitable again.

But these are just the start of the changes that they're having to make and why V-Bucks will soon be changing forever.

Going back to the email, it states that Fortnite is growing again this year, which is fantastic news.

But most of this is actually driven by creative mode, and of course, thanks to UEFN.

This is fantastic news for creators like ourselves and people that are building experiences in Fortnite, as with the new Creator Economy 2.0, 40% of the earnings from Fortnite goes directly back into the creative experiences and pays the creators that are making these games in Fortnite.

The only thing is, that's actually not great news for Epic Games, because they were making a lot more money when they didn't have to pay all of this money out to creators and could just put skins in the item shop and take all the profit for themselves.

In the past, we've seen the Creator Economy 1.0, which allowed you to enter a code into the item shop, like mine, code ALI-A, and when doing so, you'd give that creator 5% of anything that you'd purchased in the item shop.

That's still a feature in the game and is one of the biggest and best ways you can support creators like myself, so thank you if you do so.

That, of course, worked fine back in the early days of Fortnite, but now that Fortnite players have started to drop off, these creative experiences are needed to draw new players in.

It's actually been revealed that since the introduction of the Creator Economy 2.0, that pays the creators for making games in Fortnite, over $120 million has already been paid out.

Fortnite are now in a position where they're bringing in new players thanks to these creative maps, but having to pay out so much money for the maps to be made and they don't want to change this formula as it's working well and helping Fortnite grow again,

Which is where cuts in other areas took place.

Now, the 830 people that were laid off from Epic Games, these were sitting outside of the core development team, meaning that the actual development and production of Fortnite as a game will not slow down as a result of these changes.

Epic Games actually bought a few companies to help support Fortnite, including one called Bandcamp that actually creates amazing music and most of the music that you hear on the Fortnite radio was made by this company,

But they've had to be sold alongside other companies that Epic Games have bought in an effort to start making money again.

Now, over this last year, you may have noticed there have been no live events and this is actually directly mentioned as Fortnite purposely cut down on both marketing and in-game events because they cost so much money to develop and they're such expensive things for Fortnite to initiate,

But the savings that they made from cutting back on these things were not enough to stop them having to fire so many people.

I think you and I would all agree that stopping in-game events is not a good way to make Fortnite more engaging and to keep players playing and although it does all sound like doom and gloom, there is some great news about the future of Fortnite and specifically live events that I'll be covering later in the video.

Before we talk more about the changes to V-Bucks and how this is going to help Fortnite moving forwards, I also want to highlight the fact that one of the most well-known people working at Epic Games was,

Of course, Donald Mustard.

He was the chief creative officer and is basically the man and the brain behind the incredible Fortnite story that has been unfolding since the beginning of chapter one.

This helped create this metaverse of the world of Fortnite where characters from all different areas of real life like me, Marvel, like Iron Man, can come together in the same place that is Fortnite and actually be linked together by a story.

He was also known for posting fantastic teasers.

He obviously knew everything that was coming to the game.

He once tweeted about jeans, then the Marvel Dark Phoenix character known as Jean Grey in the comics came to the item shop the next day.

He referenced being able to see the end, literally 24 hours before the end of chapter one happened.

He even hid a board in the background of one of his videos that said the last reality three months before we got the last reality season in chapter two, season eight.

But the sad reality of Donald Mustard stepping away, the lack of focus on live events has been felt over the last year.

The Fortnite story has genuinely felt really weak with little to no mention of Jones, nothing to do with the seven and some of the key original Fortnite characters just being thrown to the side.

Fortnite drastically need to make changes.

The good news is Donald Mustard has been replaced already by Charlie Wen, who's had over 22 years of experience with in-gaming and even created the infamous character Kratos himself.

He's got work experience within Marvel.

There is obviously a huge mantle to follow to try and carry on the story that Donald Mustard has created.

Hopefully Charlie can do a fantastic job and see the return of an amazing story in Fortnite.

But what about V-Bucks?

One of the biggest things that Fortnite are doing to help combat the fact that they are spending more money than they are making is adjusting the prices of V-Bucks.

This will be happening across many, many countries.

And actually these changes have already kicked in in UK, Canada, and Mexico back in July.

So I've already felt these changes as someone that lives in the UK, but the prices of V-Bucks rising.

With most of you guys probably watching in America and a lot of other countries affected by these changes, I'll share the American dollar changes on screen here.

The most expensive V-Buck package will go from $80 up to $90, effectively making everything that you're buying in the item shop a little bit more expensive.

It's not just V-Bucks that will have price changes.

The seasonal starter packs and save the world packs have all had their costs raised and even gifted battle passes as well.

The good thing is buying the battle pass for yourself and also the cost of the crew packs will not have any price changes.

Now, although this does suck, if we actually throw it back to 2020, Epic Games actually had a huge reduction in the price of their V-Bucks at the beginning of their battle against Apple.

And even with these new increases, V-Buck prices will still be cheaper than they were before 2020, which is a good thing to remember.

These changes will kick in on October the 27th.

If you want to load up on V-Bucks before then and you live in these countries, it is probably a good idea if you know you're going to be spending them eventually.

Now, everything sounds a bit doom and gloom.

No live events, a change in Fortnite leadership and V-Buck prices increasing, but it's not all bad.

I mentioned at Unreal Fest that they talked about giving creators over $120 million in only the last few months.

And the good news is they also referenced live events.

One of the developers at Epic Games stood up the Unreal Fest show and talked about some of the work he'd done.

He'd worked at a level designer, done some work in cinematics and also some other special projects and mentioned that he is currently working on some of the big events that will soon be coming to Fortnite.

Now, of course, there's two categories of live events, story-driven and concerts, both of which we've not had for ages, but he actually says that he's specifically been working on a concert live event and even referenced the previous ones with Travis Scott,

Ariana Grande and Marshmello, meaning the next one should be another huge collaboration with a big music artist and these always draw in so many people to the game.

But taking off the fact we're getting a concert live event soon and we're coming towards the end of chapter four, it is guaranteed at the end of chapter, we always get a live event.

Even with Epic cutting back on these kinds of things, we need an amazing experience and we'll be getting something that will take us from the end of this chapter into the next chapter, which currently happens every year around December,

Which means we've got not one, but two huge live events on the horizon for Fortnite.

And when talking about chapter five, it has actually been officially referenced by Epic Games in their official blog post, letting us know that it is right around the corner and it is officially coming.

Alongside chapter five, they mentioned Del Mar, Sparks and Juno.

These are all code names used internally to reference projects that if their names get leaked or referenced like they have in this blog post, we don't know what they are.

But thanks to leaks, we do know what they are.

Del Mar is apparently the code name for Fortnite's up and coming race mode.

This is set to be released alongside the start of chapter five and it's something I've talked about for a long time now.

It'll be its own separate mode with a tutorial, several different race maps, your own car that you can fully customize and even its own battle pass.

This makes so much sense when you think Fortnite need more money if they then have the battle royale battle pass and the racing car battle pass, it's then twice as many battle passes that you can buy within the game.

It will feature a casual racing mode and a competitive racing mode.

And as someone that absolutely loves cars, this mode gets me really excited.

But what about the other code names?

Juno is apparently the code name for Fortnite's up and coming Lego collab that is also set to release soon.

One thing that's a little bit different of this chapter is that this season that we're currently in is set to end earlier than the start of the next chapter.

That basically means when this season starts, we've got a four week period of a mini season before chapter five kicks in.

People believe that this mini season could be fully Lego themed, bringing Lego themed weapons to Fortnite.

There's already been leaks of a rope and chain grenade launcher made out of Lego bricks.

And this collab will cross over into creative as well, allowing people to literally take Lego bricks and build Lego creative experience in the world of Fortnite.

We can assume that there'll be some sort of crossover between Fortnite skins and Lego minifigures, but we're unsure how that'll integrate into the item shop.

But Lego pickaxes, back blings and gliders are all very possible.

So you can see where this huge collab could be saved for its own mini season.

The final code name, Sparks, is currently unknown, but could potentially link to Fortnite's first person mode.

Every chapter for the last few chapters, we've had a big new thing added, like Zero Build, that brings players back to the game and adds in a whole new way of playing Fortnite.

First person mode will obviously change the way that we play, bringing people that love to play first person shooters into the world of Fortnite and gives a completely different perspective on the way that we play the game.

Alongside this, weapon charms have been talked about for years now.

An attachment you can put onto your gun to make it more personable, since that's what you'll be looking at primarily when in first person mode.

There's been many glitches that allow us to go into first person mode, though it wasn't quite ready and it does look fantastic.

This update is definitely close around the corner and if I was to guess, probably drop around chapter five, season two.

So yes, V-Buck prices are going up and Epic Games have had a bit of a rough few years.

But there's so many huge things around the corner that Fortnite is definitely not dying and I am so excited to see what the next few months will bring to the game.
