Leafs lose two to one to the Carolina Hurricanes in Carolina.

What did I say yesterday dude?

This back to back?

Like I know you can't complain about back to backs because every team has to play them.

Dude this is a BAD one right?

Carolina Hurricanes are now one point back of first place in the ENTIRE NHL of the President's Trophy.

And the Edmonton Oilers, heading into last night's game, had ONE REGULATION LOSS in TWENTY TWENTY FOUR!

IT'S MARCH.

Back to back, with travel.

Second half of back to back is against Carolina, that's where you have to do the travel, that's where you're on the road.

AND the game starts less than twenty four hours after the last one which

the NHLPA needs to do like a better job?

Like EW!

And I know you might be thinking to yourself, excuses excuses, and sure it's an excuse.

You can only play the team in front of you, it's nothing against Carolina.

At all.

Carolina, who by the way, did NOT play Saturday night!

Add that on top of the pile!

Second half of a back to back, on the road, with travel, against a rested team.

There were a ton of back to backs this weekend, lots of teams playing Saturday, lots of teams playing Sunday,

here are all the teams who had to travel with their back to backs.

Winnipeg Jets had to play the New York Islanders, lost.

Then traveled to Washington, lost.

Edmonton Oilers went to Toronto, lost.

Had to travel the next day to Ottawa, LOST TO OTTAWA.

Leafs had to play the Edmonton Oilers, WON!

and then on the second half of a back to back loss to Carolina.

Florida Panthers!

Panthers, overtime loss to the Rangers, then they go to Philadelphia.

They win that one but it's New York to Philadelphia.

Devils lose to Ottawa, travel, they beat the Islanders.

Ooh they're catching up!

And then we get the Lightning visiting the Anaheim Ducks and at the time I'm recording this video the Lightning are losing.

OTL to LA, then they go to Anaheim which again is only an hour down the road, they're still losing.

That's a three five and three record for the teams who had to do that this weekend, not including the Lightning because we don't know the outcome of the game.

That sucks.

And we always go back to the, well they're pro athletes argument and yeah they're pro athletes.

I don't think, did anyone say they weren't?

TJ Brodie back in the lineup, I'm, he's really getting it.

The first goal that he was on the ice for, it wasn't even his fault!

Freddie Shea with his twelfth of the season and maybe the easiest!

And then on the power play, definitely don't give him a power play.

Ajo shoots and it goes off of McCabe!

Again, I'm not gonna take too much from this game so I'm not gonna hammer McCabe too hard but that's bad.

And that's the game right there!

Like you don't always need to explain what happened like I did yesterday.

I don't know that the videos are gonna be twenty minutes

when I start shooting them.

And I don't know why I'm apologizing to you, I'm giving you more content.

I'm really apologizing through the camera to producer Drew.

The only real thing I'll complain about is the Leafs WERE on a power play.

Neat.

John Tavares got his stick snapped in half while the Leafs were on the power play and… the whistle went!

Well Craig Simpson and Chris Cuthbert didn't know why either and they're broadcasting the game.

Like far too often during a hockey game, everyone involved including people who played in the NHL are sitting there going, I don't know.

And then we MOVE ON.

Like there's gonna be conversations at water coolers tomorrow between people who care about hockey DESPITE the NHL.

Anyway, the Leafs were not the better team in this one and Carolina's an extremely good team.

The Leafs, tired obviously.

Three guys getting into the lineup, dealing with injuries, dealing with illnesses that they're coming off of.

and it showed in the first period.

Outshot SIXTEEN to SEVEN.

Joseph Wohl is the only reason they're remotely in that thing.

They fight back much better in the second period, still outshot fifteen to thirteen.

Again, Joseph Wohl, the only reason they're remotely in it but at very least in the second period the Leafs had some opportunities.

Frederik Andersen was standing on his SKULL and BRAIN.

And then the third period was just the hockey gods just hatin' on the Leafs except for that goalpost.

Willie missing wide open opportunities.

Matthews FINALLY finds Nick Robertson who buries his TENTH of the season and oh did he need that goal.

Not just to bring the Leafs within one, not just to preserve their non shutout streak, but also, his last couple games, his last like, few games have not been very good.

Gotta make the most of your opportunities and that's a good goal!

Leafs have a GOLDEN opportunity near the end of the game with the power play AND the goalie pulled.

Still wasn't enough.

Frederick Anderson was spectacular.

the Carolina Hurricanes were smothering.

There was a solid eight minute chunk of the third period where the Leafs didn't even get a shot.

Full marks to the Hurricanes, they know how to shut her down.

he knew what to do obviously.

But I think this from Anthony Petrelli sums it up pretty well.

Anthony Petrelli says, referring to the Hurricanes, if that's supposed to be the class of the East now, the Leafs should feel pretty good about where they are at.

Wool kept them in the game and they didn't outplay them but nowhere near their best

versus a rested team at home and had a chance to tie their late.

Can't win them all.

Yeah like, would I like McCabe to not make that giveaway?

Would I like them to take fewer penalties?

Yeah.

Would I like the penalty kill to be a little bit better?

Yeah.

But!

In this wacky world of professional sports, the Carolina Hurricanes had

almost every advantage imaginable.

Every advantage you can give to a pro hockey team and they won by the skin of their teeth.

Do you wanna be the home team or the road team?

You wanna be the home team.

So they were the home team, there's advantage one.

Do you wanna be rested?

Or do you wanna be on the second half of a back to back?

oh do you want to be rested?

Okay so there's advantage too.

You want to be the team who traveled yesterday or the team who was sitting at home?

You want to be the team who was sitting at home.

And by the way, speaking of, who was the Leafs best player in this game?

It was Joseph Wohl.

It was Joseph Wool.

He got there yesterday.

The Hurricanes won this game.

The Hurricanes SHOULD have won this game.

The Leafs put up a pretty good effort.

There's a reason there's only one video where I turned purple for screaming that there was a forty two year old Zamboni driver who beat the Leafs.

Because that's only happened once!

You don't do that for a regular season game in March where the Leafs actually played pretty well.

David Alter tweets, asked Sheldon Keefe about how he felt about TJ Brodie's game tonight uh in his first game back and Keefe said he was fine.

Not a ringing endorsement but also did he deserve one?

and are we being too hard on him?

I'm glad you asked both questions because I would answer no to the first one and

I don't think TJ Brodie has been put in a position to succeed at any moment this entire season and the Leafs waited until game SIXTY EIGHT to do something about it and that's ridiculous.

Does he play next game?

I mean, it's a difficult question.

It's really up to the Leafs philosophy because there's no reason to keep him out of next game when it comes to health.

and obviously he's a VET and all that so you don't go tie goes to the veteran and

take a rookie out of the lineup?

But I think I can answer that question better by answering this one.

To answer this question, I need to say this.

Going back to October November December, even January honestly, when talking about playoff lineup I think is a waste of time.

Like you can maybe use it as a tiebreaker but heading into the playoffs you want the guys who have been playing great and playing great TOGETHER

We know Jake McCabe and Morgan Rielly can work together, we've seen it work together.

That's probably not what they should be doing.

What should they be doing?

Morgan Rielly with the guy who they GOT to play with him, Ilya Labushkin.

that's what they do.

Then, Joel Edmundson, who was BLOODY fantastic in the game against the Oilers, I definitely want him on my team come playoff time, with Timothy Lilligrand who has COMPLETELY resurrected his season.

Do you see him throw a hit in this one?!

Please put him with Joel Edmundson all the time!

He's starting to rub OFF on him!

So I would have those two together, Edmundson and Lilligrand.

So my third pair would be Jake McCabe, or second pair, doesn't matter what order you put them in.

I would have Jake McCabe and his D partner.

One thing the Leafs did VERY late in the season last year and then did in the playoffs is they went with eleven forwards and seven defensemen.

Honestly?

I'd be down with that.
