Hello everyone, it's Spawn Point, and today we're getting hands on with PlayStation's brand new gaming headset, the Pulse Elite Wireless headset for the PSV.

These come with planar magnetic drivers, a retractable mic, up to thirty hours of battery, and have fully customisable EQ settings.

And as they support PlayStation Link and Bluetooth, they should work on most of your devices.

Today we're going to get these unboxed and then go over the features, comfort and sound quality.

And I'll even do a mic test showing off the AI enhanced noise rejection.

Okay, so the packaging is as you would expect from any PlayStation or PS V related accessory.

However, they do work on PS V, PC, Mac and mobile, which I will cover later.

There's also some extra information on the back of the box, including the new planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation link and Bluetooth.

But let's get this opened up and see what we get inside.

Okay, so this is a nice touch.

As soon as you open it up, we've got a kind of quick start guide talking us through the different controls and how to link it to each device.

Right down to how long you need to press the pair button.

So that's pretty useful.

Then under that we have the headset.

So it comes with these little pieces of foam that we need to slide out.

This is what stops the ear cups from moving around inside the box.

And these look nice.

I'm liking the black and white design and even the shape of the band on the side.

But I'll come back to this in a minute.

There's also a USB dongle for PlayStation Link.

And if you look really closely, you can see these tiny PlayStation icons on the case.

Then we have the manual and warranty information, a USB C to Type A cable, and a charging hanger.

Oh, and a guide on how to fit and use it.

Now, this is designed to be fitted to your wall, but I'll show you later what I did with mine instead.

And here it is.

And on first impressions, these look and feel nice.

Very similar to the Pulse headset that we've had before, but you can tell straight away this is definitely a step up.

Of course, we've got the typical PS V black and white theme going on, with the black ear cups and the white headband across the top.

But this time, instead of the headband stopping at the back of the cups, they actually extend around to the front.

I actually quite like the look of this.

Then we've got a PlayStation logo on each side here.

And if you look really closely under the band, there's those signature PlayStation icons built into the frame.

And this is something that we've seen across their controllers and console covers.

Now, one of the big updates on the Pulse Elite headset is the new mic.

So rather than being built into the headset itself, it is now a boom arm that pulls out.

And what's cool is they've added these little PlayStation symbols onto the end of the mic, which not only looks good, but actually helps with gripping and pulling it out.

Weight wise, well these come in at around three hundred and forty seven grams and don't feel heavy at all but also not too light that they feel cheap.

As for the controls, on the right side we have the volume up and down buttons which beep as you press them.

There's a USB C port that you can use for charging and updating it.

We've also got a three point five mil headphone jack and the power button which also doubles up as the pair button.

On the left side we don't have any controls or buttons at all other than the mic and a mute button.

And just for comparison, here's how they look alongside the Pulse headset.

Now the one I have here is the black one, but it gives you an idea on the overall differences.

So as you can see, they do look very similar, but with some nice changes to the shape and the placement of the buttons, as the buttons are now on the frame rather than the ear cups.

So what devices does this work with?

I hear you ask.

Well, let's start with the PS five.

So in the box, it comes with this USB dongle, and this is what gives the headset that PlayStation link connectivity.

Now, the advantage of using PlayStation link over Bluetooth is it provides an ultra low latency and lossless audio.

Now, it doesn't matter which PS five you've got, whether it's the original one or the new slimmer model, just plug it into any available port.

On the older model, this can be either the front or the back.

whereas the newer one only has USB Type C on the front, so you will need to use the back.

Now the first time you plug it in, you will be prompted to update it, so just make sure you've connected both your headset and the dongle via USB.

It'll also run through a couple of setup screens.

And that's it, we're connected, and the Pulse Elite headset will now show up in the sound settings under output devices.

Then there's the PlayStation Portal.

So if you have one of these, you're able to connect to this without the dongle.

Just press and hold the power button until it flashes.

Do the same with the link button on the top of the portal and we are now connected.

You can now use this wireless gaming headset while playing away from your setup.

In fact, this is the only wireless headset that will work on the portal.

And it's not just PlayStation devices that this will work with.

You can use this USB dongle and connect it to PC and Mac.

and you can connect it to your mobile phone via Bluetooth.

I tested this out on my iPhone and it connected straight away and sounds great.

You might have noticed as well, there's also a three point five mil headphone jack and that's for connecting it to devices that don't support PlayStation link or Bluetooth.

But of course, you would need your own three point five mil audio cable as the headset does not come with one in the box.

And another cool feature is this supports dual device connectivity.

So you can connect to both PlayStation link and Bluetooth at the same time.

This will allow you to listen to your PS five audio and mobile audio so you could take calls or listen to music while you game on the PS five.

Okay, let's talk about the sound and audio quality.

And let me tell you, these sound really good.

As soon as I put them on, cranked up the volume and started playing God of War, I was immediately impressed.

But it's not surprising, as just like with the Pulse Explore earbuds, these are packing Sony's new planar magnetic drivers, which are studio inspired drivers.

You'd actually normally find these in high end headphones.

We're talking a really clear and detailed listening experience.

Every game I've played, whether it's on the PSV or the Portal, have sounded great.

And as PlayStation themselves have said, how games were made to sound.

As I was rowing through the waters in Ragnarok, it was incredible how much detail and ambient noise I could hear.

The same goes for playing games like The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

And that's also helped by the the Tempest audio which you can enable in the settings.

Now out of the box, these sound great and most gamers will probably use them as they are with no changes at all.

But the good news is, if you did find they had too much bass or not enough treble, well you can actually adjust it.

So on the PSV, if you go into the sound settings, you will now have the EQ presets option.

In here you can either swap between a few of the default options including standard, a bass boost and shooter.

Or you can tweak the bands yourself with these three custom slots.

This means you can adjust the five sliders just the way you like it.

And this is a feature that no other third party headset can offer through the PSV's menus.

So that's pretty cool.

You can also adjust the volume and party gain balance with the FN keys or you can go into the settings.

So you don't need to mess around trying to change these as you're playing.

So one of the biggest changes we get with the Pulse Elite headset over the normal Pulse headset is the mic.

And this for me is a noticeable step up.

So firstly, because of the shape of the headset, the mic is naturally closer to your mouth.

But it also extends out on this boom arm, so it means you can position it exactly how you need it.

Then on the mic itself, there's a mute button and an LED.

So when you press it, it lights up orange so you know when you're on mute.

Oh, and if you press the mute button on your controller, it does work on the headset as well.

But one thing to note is by pushing the mic back into your headset, it doesn't auto mute it.

So it does mean you do need to still mute yourself either on the mic or on the controller.

As for the mic quality and features, it has something called AI enhanced noise rejection, which should give us better voice clarity when chatting online.

You can also adjust the side tone on the mic, which means you can hear your own voice while you're talking.

This is definitely useful if you want to stop yourself from shouting while playing online.

But here's a quick mic test to see what you think.

OK, so this is a test of the microphone of the Pulse Elite headset.

Just give an idea of what it sounds like.

Now, I've got the microphone fully extended out.

Just give an idea of what it sounds like in this position.

And this is what it sounds like when the microphone is pushed back into the headset.

And then here's a demonstration of what the AI noise rejection is like.

I've got some bubble wrap in front of me here, which I'm now going to use just to demonstrate the difference between the headset and my phone.

Now let's be honest, this is a pretty extreme noise that you probably won't have in your own room.

But as I'm talking now, you'll probably still hear the noise in the background, but it'll be nowhere near as loud as what my phone's picking up.

As for the comfort, well, these are over the ear headphones and have these pleather ear cups with loads of padding, and they feel really soft.

Now as you can see there's loads of movement in the cups but this is by design as it means they will adjust pretty well to any head.

Then when it comes to wearing them they feel comfortable on both the top of my head and around the ears and that's massively helped by this rubbery strap that suspends under the main headband.

So this is the part that sits on your head and as it moves up and down you can get a near perfect fit with no fiddly bits or sliders.

Now I actually wore this for about five hours straight while doing the testing last week and I had no issues at all with the comfort.

When it comes to using and charging it, PlayStation states it'll do up to thirty hours on one charge, which let's face it, is plenty.

As soon as you've finished, just stick it on charge and they'll be ready for the next session.

On top of that, a ten minute charge will get you about two hours of battery.

And in case you wondered, yes the PSV does show the battery status of the headset on the screen, so it takes the guesswork out of how much you've got left.

Now there are two ways you can charge them.

The first is with the provided USB cable.

So plug one end into the USB port on your PS Five and the other one into the USB C port on the headset.

You'll now get a little orange LED on the front to tell you that it's charging.

And the other way is with the provided charging hanger.

So on the underside of the headset you've got these little contact points and this is what lets you mount the headset onto the bracket and charge it.

It comes with this mounting plate as well so you can actually attach it to your wall.

I think it's really cool that PlayStation are including this in the box, but I'll be honest, I'm not going to be drilling a hole in my wall to hang this.

So what I did instead was put a command strip or a double sided tape on the top part here, and I then stuck it to the underside of my desk.

I then routed the USB cable under that and to the back of the PS five.

I think this actually turned out really well and looks awesome in the setup.

Of course, you could put this anywhere in your TV setup or your desk setup, but it would have been really cool if we could have mounted this onto the side or the top of your PS five.

So when you factor in all of the features of this headset, is it really worth buying?

Well for me, this is a step up from the Pulse headset that we've had before.

Those planar magnetic drivers, retractable mic, Bluetooth support and dual device connectivity make this a brilliant headset.

And the good news is, it's pretty well priced as well.
