Oh boy, is this gonna be something.

In the history of this entire channel I have pretty much successfully avoided talking about all leaks.

That's because I don't really want to support them.

But this one went ballistic the moment it saw the light of day.

The vast majority of people who live on social media have already seen it.

Because everyone was too busy talking about feet than tagging spoilers to blur out the thumbnails.

So...

even I couldn't avoid it.

And still, leaks are not cool.

It was not cool to get all the characters from Spirit Blossom leaked before the event came out.

And even though Sentinels of Light had some hiccups, it wasn't cool to see the leaks either.

And no, Riot has never leaked anything on purpose.

This was confirmed directly by Riot many times in the past, and I even asked about it myself when I was at Riot.

Apparently, they leaked something on purpose only once.

It was back when Surrender at Twenty and Skin Spotlights were way too good at data mining, so they purposefully leaked some fake information just to troll them.

But outside of that, Riot has never done it on purpose, and as you'll see, there is a good reason why.

Which also means that the latest leak was not on purpose either.

And the reason why is because it is heavily screwing up with their marketing.

Usually, before a champion is revealed, Riot posts a couple of teasers leading up to the week of reveal.

Maybe it's a piece of environment around them, or maybe it is their weapon, which then leads to the actual reveal, which is usually done through a cinematic.

After that, we get their abilities, and finally, we also get to see their splash art.

For example, this is how Nafiri was done.

But now, since the splash art already leaked, they can't drop the teasers effectively because people already know what she looks like.

So I have no doubt Riot's social media team is scrambling right now.

Because normally they would have everything set up down to a date.

So right now we are at a point where a leak happened.

Riot is most likely not too happy about it.

It is spreading around very quickly and it is still growing so it will be more difficult to avoid the leaks.

But most importantly it spawned a new conversation

which I didn't think I would have to talk about.

So without further ado, focus your gaze on the screen, for I am about to show you Briar.

A vampire champion with unsatiable hunger, an uncontrollable monster released as a weapon of destruction in the most dire situations.

One that is likely linked to Noxus, which means a possible connection to the Crimson Cult.

Or even the Grey Legion.

One teased with a torture device that would turn any man into a monster.

In a universe where madmen break mortal bodies and minds.

Where the innocent are sacrificed for the machines of war.

Behold!

Yes, I think everyone knows what kind of a discussion this spawned.

From the moment Riot started teasing Briar, they mentioned a powerful female champion, who has an inner monster that's also a vampire, which in this universe likely means some form of hemomancy.

Of course, since visually she seems to be connected to Noxus, people expected something that is similar to what we have seen in Legends of Runeterra.

One of those Hammowmancers from the Crimson Cult.

Because truth be told, the design of those Hammowmancers is very popular in League's community.

I could bring up one of the reasons why that could be the case, but honestly all of those guys are awesome.

But nope, this one doesn't seem to be one of the cultists.

It seems to be...

a child that was likely experimented on, and based on the facial expression she seems to be completely wild.

Which is why some people got disappointed that instead of a blood lusting monster, or at least an aging witch, we got another pretty face in League's roster.

And somehow

don't really care anymore.

Look, I have fought this fight a few times in the past and I have lost every time.

I made countless videos about this.

It is still true that outside of VGUs, which gave us something like Fiddlesticks or Volibear, the craziest design for a new champion we got was a

dog, a pretty cool one to be fair, and a void monster that turned out to be a sexy lady, which is honestly fine, but it's not the kind of Cho'Gath that people were looking forward to.

And since the last time I talked about this, I got exposed to a whole new section of video games with their own character designs, so now I am a broken man, so you know what,

Sure, I'm just beyond constantly arguing about this.

You won Riot!

Most of your focus is on ASUs and the gameplay anyway now, so you're still doing better than most other universes.

To be honest, while this champion has some weaker sides, she also has some really strong points.

Which, you know, the internet definitely talked about in the most civil ways.

It didn't start a war over whether this champion is a loli.

Why am I making this video?

Look, I'm going to lay out all the facts on the table.

This is very obviously a child.

There is nothing wrong with having a child character in your video game, especially if you are going for creepy elements.

All you need to do is to look at some classic movies to see how a child can sell you horror.

But you know,

I'm a bit scared because I think I know what's gonna be happening here.

In the lore, Vladimir is hundreds of years old because he is using the ancient blood magic of the Darkin to rejuvenate his body.

As long as he is getting blood of mortals to reshape his body, he is technically immortal.

However, he is also starting to suffer from dementia.

Because even though his body is aging while getting sustained, his brain is not getting any bigger, so he is constantly forgetting things.

which is why every hundred years or so he hires a painter to make him a portrait to immortalize him in that moment.

That way he will have something to remind him of his past deeds.

This is honestly something that turns Vladimir from the classic Dracula villain into a very interesting character.

So how is this connected to Briar?

Well, in the past, Riot pointed out that Briar will be a vampire like champion, by which they were teasing that it should be different from what we've seen around Vladimir.

But from the lore's perspective, it wouldn't make sense to introduce another kind of blood magic while you already have a really well established blood magic.

So I'm gonna assume she is connected to the classic Hammomancy in some way, which means that's what's sustaining her.

So even though she is very obviously a child...

She is also very likely to be at least five hundred years old.

But her body doesn't seem to age because blood magic is rejuvenating her.

I know this information will fuel another war.

We've been here in the past.

So far, from what I've seen, people have only been memeing about it.

This is a fantasy trope that's been done a million times in the past, especially in animes.

There is some dark humor every now and then, but that's really where we are right now.

Just a few memes, some disappointment from the pretty face, all things considered.

But that's really where the degeneracy ended.

Wrong.

The discussion was never about the appearance of a champion.

It was never about what could be in an alternative universe.

No.

The dogs

were about feet.

I don't really want to make this video anymore.

That's right.

From all the things that people could talk about, it all converged at the primordial element of internet discussions.

To be fair, I understand why.

Looking at the splash art, it is structured in a way to make you focus on the feet.

It has a dark frame from the pillars and the corpses.

You have a bit of red light to draw an outline around her face, which is where most of your focus should be.

But also, they very specifically illuminated her feet.

That's the only part of her in direct light.

which is a funny decision.

I assume she is mostly in the dark because historically vampires avoid sunlight, but it's still there, aimed at her feet.

no reason.

So of course people started making all kinds of jokes.

League of memes stayed relatively fine, but leave it to the Darkinfolk to go unhinged.

Yes, in case you don't know, the Darkinfolk community is sort of a league of memes, but it's all the darkest humor you can find.

Also, I don't actually know what the Jax jokes are about.

And I'm not gonna look it up.

Later, people also made memes where they gave her shoes,

all kinds of shoes, but that didn't stop them going absolutely out of control.

But you see, all of this were just jokes and memes.

People don't actually care about this issue that much.

It is just a splash art, who really cares.

But some people thought that everyone else was absolutely serious about this.

And so suddenly people also started bringing up thighs and armpits and you know what, let's move on.

As I mentioned, in the classic media, children have been very successful at driving horror.

Think Hedgehog, The Ring or Left for Dead.

Remember the witch from that game?

Yeah, people also considered her a pretty face.

And that turned out to be the enemy to strike fear in the hearts of every Valve fan.

And that's what I hope Riot is going for.

An unhinged,

freakish witch.

If that's the goal, Briar has some serious potential.

But at the same time, if they lean away from this, I feel like the character of this champion may fundamentally break.

What I think also hurt Briar's first impressions are all the fake leaks that people made up.

People thought they were on point with the stuff based around the Crimson Cult, because it would make sense, but they all underestimated Riot's ability to deceive.

Never forget the Void event,

Now, if you ask me, I think this champion design is fine.

Good, even.

She has some really strong design elements.

Her blank stare alone is there for a few reasons.

First of all, it is creepy as hell.

If you want to turn the look of a child into a monster, that's the cheapest way to do it.

But it's also a blank stare because she's obviously blinded by her hunger.

That's why you can also see her sitting on top of a Demacian corpse.

but she is also surrounded by dead Noxians.

It's because she is clearly uncontrollable, which is why she is locked in a torture device.

Are we all gonna ignore that?

The device with spikes aimed at her neck, which was historically used on prisoners so they couldn't lay down and sleep?

Are we all gonna ignore the fact that she's a screwed up, tortured, creepy character?

Are bare feet gonna stop me from appreciating what Wright is going for?

No.

She's a prisoner.

They usually don't have shoes.

If you want to complain about a child character with bare feet, you're a few years late, buddy.

But honestly, all of this will depend on her personality.

If they just go with the fully crazy, insane shrieks of madness, this character is going to have a massive potential.

Fiddlesticks voice lines alone carried him far.

But if this just turns out to be a weird Evelynne two point oh, people are going to be disappointed.

So far we also got another one tiny Leek.

It's the icon for one of her abilities.

Based on Leek's history if this is an ultimate I assume she's just gonna go crazy mode and she will break out of the chains.

She will run around and carve eyes from your eye sockets and then she gets magically imprisoned again after her ultimate runs out.

But hey I am ready to be surprised.

So overall, assuming Riot is actually going for a scary champion, I like what Riot is going for.

It seems to be aligned with classical horror.

So if you put her next to Fiddlesticks, Nocturne, and Dr. Mundo, you'll start getting a classic horror cast of characters.

And again, I pray this is what Riot is going for.

The creepier they go, the more they will protect this character from the internet.
