Hi, I'm Michelle.

And I'm Forrest.

This is Taco.

And this is our handmade home in Atlanta, Georgia.

We wanted to move into this loft because when we were looking for places, we wanted something that was going to be something we could have a lot of fun with.

We've been living in rentals all this time.

It was the first place we ever bought.

So we really wanted something that we could put our stamp on and that wouldn't have too much that we had to work around.

So we ended up really liking that this was clean, modern, high ceilings, white walls, and that that kind of gave us infinite opportunity to play with it.

It was perfect for doing photo shoots, which we really love.

So we do advertising photography together.

We have a company called Tropico Photo, and now I also do content creation, which is anything from home, lifestyle, fashion, you name it.

Like anything really that falls into my aesthetic and our combined aesthetic.

I think over time we started like integrating our aesthetic more and more into what we were doing.

And then that grew into what our home looks like, what we dress like, you know, sort of anything that's visual, like being able to put our stamp on it became more important.

And I think by the time we were buying this place, we were really excited to put that stamp on where we lived as well.

So this is our condo.

We really love this space being so wide open with the high ceilings and constant light.

And we went off of the all white base that it was when we moved in to go crazy with the colors, the painting, and the decor.

When we first bought this condo, it was totally white.

It was a blank slate.

We had cement ceiling, cement floors, white walls, and it was perfect.

We used Photoshop to draw on the photos that were in the actual listing to design what was going to go on the walls.

And then we hit the ground running as soon as we closed.

Yeah, we really only used about six or seven colors in here because we wanted to keep the palette fairly limited so that while it felt bold and colorful and crazy, that it also had a thread that was tying it all together.

We also kept some portions white so that they could bounce around the light inside, keep it really bright, and also give your eye places to rest.

We designed and painted the color blocks with asymmetrical lines because we wanted it to feel dynamic and balanced without being overwhelming.

I think that we created new lines for your eyes to follow and like placements for the art through having the asymmetrical lines and the color blocking that breaks the space up.

So it made it feel a little bit more unique than maybe how it was initially built.

It's definitely creative chaos.

So this is our combined sort of workspace and living room.

I'd say that this is where the majority of our time is spent.

It also features one of our most favorite pieces, which is a custom entertainment center that our friends Matt and Eve of Silt Studio built for us.

They are local to Atlanta, and we had the benefit of being able to match the colors to the paint colors in our space.

And this is a place where I love to sort of compile knickknacks that I find from different places and display them.

They also built it to spec for us, so it fits the space perfectly.

Without it, this area wouldn't feel complete.

When people first come into our space, they see the centerpiece of the room, which is our coffee table.

One of my longest friends from high school's dad made it twenty years ago, and we saw it in his garage, and he let us borrow it.

And then we had to confront his dad and say, hey, we actually want to buy this piece.

We don't want to borrow it anymore.

And he refinished it for us, and now it's ours, and we couldn't be happier.

We joke about when my parents would come over, we've put an apron on this, we've put bathing suits, we've put clothing on it because they don't love it.

I think we just feel like nudity is really fun and can be like a really great creative prompt and also brings a lightness to different pieces of art.

So we love collecting pieces that involve that.

Yeah, with a fine art background, I think we've always seen the human body as very sculptural, and it kind of makes it timeless and iconic in a way that clothes tie a photo to a time and place.

When people walk through the door, I want them to feel happy or surprised even.

I think that living spaces can be so subdued and, you know, we like to live in a space like this, but I also think it's fun to see people's reactions to the space.

It makes a lot of sense for people that know us well, but even when contractors or repairmen have come in, it's really sweet to see their reaction.

Just honestly, like, kind of delighted.

And I think that's nice.

This is where we keep our shrine to taco.

We've got lots of taco figurines that are brought back from different places that we go.

Pink Flamingo was a Christmas present from Michelle.

I think, I can't remember if you saw it and you really liked it.

Yeah, it was something I'd seen in the store.

It's from a kid's store.

And I talked about how much I wanted one of those.

So I love it.

I also love

incorporating things that are for kids, like, into our space.

And I think that people sometimes stray from things that can feel like they're for children, when ultimately I feel like they are for children because it's good for us to see colors.

It's, like, inspiring, it's developmentally helpful, it, you know, makes you happier and more creative, and I think it is something that I want incorporated around me all the time.

Okay, we're headed next to the kitchen.

We love the open floor plan, we love being able to host people while we're here.

This is where Apothos Plant is going absolutely crazy.

Yeah, I definitely wanted it to feel sort of like a tropical canopy happening here.

I feel like the way that this space above the kitchen comes down was a fun opportunity for painting, but also a fun structural prompt.

We knew that we wanted to put some kind of pattern or color on this backsplash because this was white originally.

This tile pattern in particular just really called to me.

I also think the diagonal lines in the pattern mimic the diagonal lines on the walls.

And the patterning is reminiscent of the checkers, which can be found in other places in there.

So here we've got like this deep purple color that we use in a couple of other places.

I feel like this speaks to that idea of using the paint colors to create and exaggerate more of the shapes that are already existing.

Also a fun part about this is it's sort of its own contained space, a little kitchen cubby.

So I think we could allow it to exist in a little bit of isolation here.

We think of this dark green color sort of as our neutral or like a black replacement.

And so this was the idea for sort of anchoring the space with this color for the cabinetry.

And then I think from there, we're sort of just assigning colors and filling them in in the spaces.

So this is my favorite room in the house, which is the bedroom.

I love that this is primarily bed.

It's a pretty small space and we got a pretty big bed to go in it.

So I feel like that's made it feel really comfortable and relaxing in here.

I'm glad that we've kept it to that and not done anything where we like would be working in here or have a desk or anything like that.

Surrounding it is also some of my favorite items, things from our travels and finds from a lot of different places.

I free handed the painting on this wall.

It's a little bit nonsensical.

I've thought about changing it, but I think there's something fun.

about it here.

We went on a trip to Oaxaca and we also went to Guatemala and we got this at the end of it.

I love how they mix the patterns here.

It's got that pop art feel that a lot of the house does and then this light, playful iconography of a dog.

We loved the striped comforter.

We loved bringing in the stripes to play with the pattern.

All the pillows are different patterns, but they have the same size pattern going on throughout.

So that's really what links all of these.

Even the stripes that are on this sort of dog character look like they could go up and become part of the pillow above it.

So that's been a really fun, bold place to mix.

We initially painted this half circle right when we moved in, planning for the bed to sit in the center of it.

And I do love that touch.

It's one of my favorite

painting details in the house.

It's actually been a really fun structural trick that I feel like I've seen more and more online, kind of playing with that idea of creating the architecture of a space using painting.

When you can't have exactly what you've envisioned, you can create an impression of that using painting to imply headboards, to imply depth.

And then this piece is so amazing.

It's by our friend Eve.

Her work is amazing.

And we loved all the breathing room that this piece has while also incorporating that really deep blue that runs throughout the house.

She custom painted the frame.

And originally this piece was taped on the wall with painter's tape.

And we thought that the blue tape looked really cool.

So she integrated that into the final frame piece.

We really loved the opportunity to have plants hanging.

It sort of built the space out in a different way.

And so then I feel like when you do have things like drop ceilings, it's a fun opportunity to play with things that are coming from above rather than from the ground.

Also, I have my jewelry displayed over here, which for a while I felt like was messy, and then people responded very strongly to seeing imagery of it, and now it's basically become its own sort of sculptural piece.

With the addition of the necklaces, I feel like I've really built this specific area to be sort of a shrine to my earrings, which I do love and are very important to me.

We picked the neon because the design really spoke to the space nicely.

We also have it on a timer, which was really nice.

It turns on in the morning when we wake up and it turns off after we go to sleep.

It creates a really calming, beautiful light in the space as well.

I like that it's colorful and abstract, but I also liked looking at it and seeing different faces in it.

You do see faces like everywhere.

It's a fun way to let your mind relax and kind of zone out.

So this is our little dining area.

It's sort of a space that feels a little bit like a miniature art gallery now.

It has a lot of works in progress stored over here.

And when we have friends over for dinner and cook meals, this is where we eat.

We wallpapered this wall with the checkered wallpaper from Spoonflower.

Seeing the different mishmash of patterns and colors here brings me a lot of joy.

A big part of having patterns exist in the same space deals with the frequency of the pattern.

We do have a lot of checkers in this room.

They're all a similar frequency, so they go together.

We've been big followers of the designer Doosan Doosan for a while.

They did these chairs in collaboration with another designer and a furniture company, and they fit the aesthetic perfectly.

They tied in with what we had going on.

We waited like eight months for the chairs to arrive.

It was totally worth the wait, and I do think this is something that helped inform the choice of the wallpaper.

The green and the blue together, I think, was sort of pulled from the idea that they would be a little bit anchored by these chairs.

The light fixture is actually a new addition.

This is marbled spray paint.

Each individual piece was done by hand and constructed to spec for us.

We love that this condo had an outside space and we covered it in color like the rest of the space.

And this is amazing for us.

It's like exactly the size for us to have a little sweet dinner out here, do a cocktail hour, have a few friends over.

And I thought it'd be really cool to do turf.

The biggest thing was figuring out how to deal with rainwater.

And so there's irrigation tiles cut to scale underneath here so that the water can go through the turf and leave the patio without causing structural damage to the cement.

It also makes this space as colorful as the rest of the condo, which previously it felt toned down in comparison.

This is our bathroom.

We wanted it to be very calming and grounding, but also we leaned into the tropical here with the dark green and we chose to do a quirky pink ceiling.

It balanced really nicely with the dark green.

I also love that all of our pieces in here, like the towels, like our shower curtain, all follow the simple color blocked color palette where we're incorporating greens, purples, and pinks.

The toilet paper holder is actually one of my favorite items.

It's easy to forget about, I realize now, but one of our friends actually made that, Rebecca Cash.

We really love a artistic version of a practical piece.

Our home aesthetic definitely matches our personal aesthetic.

Buying a place finally after many years of renting was an opportunity to go wild with the space and to really echo who we are and, you know, put our mark on it.

Versus of course, as a renter, you don't want to paint too much.

You don't want to make too many changes.

So now I feel like we're very in sync with our space and we do fit right in here.
