  • That's why they called me to talk to Luke Donnell.
  • That's why they called me.
  • This is the best of the best.
  • The legendary Luke Donnell.
  • GG. Riders Cup.
  • This is what they call the captain.
  • So how does it feel to be a captain at the Rider Cup?
  • It's a big honor.
  • I feel very blessed, very privileged.
  • I mean, it's the biggest honor of my career, I'd say.
  • I mean, I'm excited about it.
  • So tell me if I'm ready for the Rider Cup.
  • Oh, a little fun.
  • A little strong, a little strong.
  • Let's see you do it, let's see you do it, let's see you do it.
  • This is in my backyard, ladies and gentlemen.
  • You gave me a line.
  • This is my backyard.
  • I made this for my kids.
  • Nice.
  • Isn't that bad?
  • Okay, let me get one in real quick.
  • Now we know how it's rolling.
  • I didn't think they were rolling that fast.
  • What got you into golf?
  • So golf is like life.
  • It's not easy.
  • But obviously, you know, it's beautiful.
  • Um, what happened was when I was a kid, we used to mess around, hitting the drive-ins, drive and play around the golf carts, just kids having fun.
  • But I realized throughout my childhood, I had a decent swing, you know, but I was so focused on my music career.
  • Boom, boom.
  • So I was just so deep into getting that right.
  • And then when the pandemic hit, my neighbors and friends of mine and it was like, let's go golfing.
  • I was like, yeah, you know me.
  • It's we the best in all categories.
  • It could be basketball, golf, tennis.
  • I'm gonna tell you that.
  • I'm coming for you.
  • I love it.
  • So we get on the golf course.
  • I realized I still had my swing.
  • My toe was there.
  • And I was like, oh no, I love this.
  • Like I knew I had it.
  • And ever since that day, it's been like two years.
  • I've been consistent, almost playing seven days a week, every single day.
  • You know, just so much for me mentally, physically, spiritually.
  • Being outside, walking.
  • Being outside, the sun.
  • But what I love about it the most is that my kids love it when they want to play golf every day.
  • So I built them this putting range in the backyard.
  • But they go with me on the course all day.
  • So it's nothing like father and son time.
  • Me and him in the golf cart.
  • He and some, you know, a drive or a wedge or a putt.
  • A putt and have them talks.
  • Man, I ain't gonna lie.
  • I've cried before, just joy.
  • Those are special times, aren't they?
  • Yes, yes.
  • My kids all come to the range, but usually they just want to go to the halfway house and grab a cookie.
  • I ain't mad at them.
  • I'm not mad at them at all.
  • Spend some time with their dad.
  • That's nice.
  • That's right.
  • That's how we do it.
  • Ryder Cup.
  • That's right.
  • So when is the Ryder Cup?
  • When is the Ryder Cup?
  • It's the last week of September.
  • And it's U.S. against?
  • Europe.
  • So it's in Europe.
  • So let me ask you, like at a Ryder Cup, is it, does it ever get like...
  • Feisty?
  • A little more than competitive?
  • It's the purest form of our sport that we have because we ain't playing for money.
  • We're playing for pride.
  • We're playing for our flags.
  • We're playing for our country.
  • We're playing for our teammates.
  • So it's like, I mean, not just because...
  • You're playing for more than just yourself.
  • Not because you're just the captain of the Ryder Cup and I have love for the Ryder Cup, obviously.
  • This is the best of the best.
  • This is the best of the best.
  • Scotty Sheffler.
  • No, hold on.
  • That's why they called me.
  • That's why they called me to talk to Luke Donald.
  • That's why they called me.
  • This is the best of the best.
  • So let me ask you, what's the strategy?
  • What's the strategy of this year's Ryder Cup?
  • Well, some of that's secret, but...
  • Okay, I like that.
  • You got to get to 14 and a half points.
  • That's the magic goal.
  • Okay.
  • 14 and a half, you're the winner.
  • US kicked our asses two years ago, so we're coming out for revenge.
  • We're the underdogs.
  • We'll have a purpose and I'll get that across to the players and they'll be ready on that first tee.
  • Does the first tee set the tone of the whole game?
  • Yes.
  • Besides that match...
  • There's nothing like a first tee at Ryder Cup.
  • Okay, so...
  • Feels like a stadium and you're just there.
  • For some reason, I feel like this year, and I'm sure they're going to see this before, obviously the Ryder Cup, all the fans out there, worldwide golf fans, the minute they get on the first tee, let's go golfing.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • I have a feeling that the whole world is going to chant that at the Ryder Cup.
  • Yep.
  • Let me try one more before we...
  • You got it.
  • Before we...
  • Real right to left.
  • We go inside and see what the chef is cooking up.
  • So a little right, you think?
  • Yeah, I think you're aiming good there.
  • That's it.
  • That was in.
  • That was in.
  • That was in.
  • That was in.
  • That was in.
  • Ryder Cup, Luke Donnell, DJ Khaled, Europe, US, one love, golf.
  • It's going to be incredible.
  • Let's go have lunch.
  • Chef Melissa, what's for lunch?
  • Hold on.
  • Before you tell me for lunch, you know I got Luke Donnell, legendary captain of the Ryder Cup.
  • What is for lunch on this beautiful day, Chef Melissa?
  • Well, I figured since the Ryder Cup is in Italy, we'd keep it Italian.
  • The spaghetti alla vongole.
  • Spaghetti alla vongole.
  • How do you say it?
  • Vongole.
  • Vongole.
  • With clams.
  • With clams.
  • Beautiful.
  • I love it.
  • I love it.
  • Y'all have the best food over there.
  • The food is so good.
  • Italian food's my favorite.
  • Yeah, she, Melissa, she...
  • Give me a little b-roll of that.
  • Show them this.
  • Give me a little one of those, one of those pastas.
  • Just give me one stick.
  • One stick.
  • Ryder Cup.
  • Luke Donnell.
  • DJ Khaled.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Let's go.
  • Let's see, I'm a Jordan athlete too.
  • Low ones, but look at this bottom.
  • Look at this.
  • Low ones.
  • Luke Donnell just gave me a pair of low ones.
  • Look at the bottom.
  • Only MJ can approve a bottom like this because we're not going to get too deep in it because, you know, I know how it goes.
  • You know what I'm saying?
  • When you're part of Team Jordan, you're chosen.
  • Yep.
  • And...
  • You're very special.
  • No, you're very special.
  • And Luke Donnell just gifted me and my son a pair of Jordan ones, but look at the bottom.
  • Y'all seen the other golf bottoms?
  • You seen the other golf bottoms?
  • You know what I'm talking about.
  • The ones without the spikes.
  • You know what I'm saying?
  • This is like...
  • They don't make them.
  • How'd you know you wanted to be into music early on?
  • Like, 8, 9, 10 years old, I knew it was in me, you know?
  • But around 11, 12, I started really actually getting deep into it.
  • And then 13, 14, I was already a pro.
  • You know, in my mind, I was a pro.
  • Like, this is what I want to do.
  • So I'm working on a new album.
  • It's called Till Next Time.
  • And I just dropped a new single with me, Little Baby Future and Lil Mosey called Supposed To Be Love.
  • And it just came out.
  • Getting ready to shoot a video for it.
  • And the way I like making my albums, this is about what's going on in my life at that time.
  • Sure.
  • So I use that inspiration to create.
  • And what's going on in my life right now is blessings.
  • When God gives you those blessings, it's our job to show our gratitude every day to the G-O-D, which I do every day.
  • And then to go hard, do everything for my family and my passion.
  • So my passion for music and golf is always at a high level because I love it.
  • You know, when you love something, I don't know how to do nothing halfway.
  • You know, golf inspired me.
  • So I'd be on the golf course thinking of ideas when I'm out there, you know, on that green or on that long fairway.
  • And I'm out there, boom, and I just hit a beautiful shot.
  • And then I get on the golf cart, driving the ball, or if I'm walking.
  • Those are the times where these ideas are coming out because it's like out there, golf cleanses me, you know?
  • It's like being in the ocean, but on a golf course, it clears my mind.
  • And then when I leave the golf course and I jump in my car, so many great ideas are coming out.
  • And then I come home, jump in the shower, and then I come in here, white t-shirt, flip-flops, and I'm just like free.
  • Do your thing.
  • And create music, man.
  • So it's a beautiful time, man.
  • And like, I'm excited.
  • You know, I gotta admit, I have a playlist on my phone.
  • It's called Winning, and one of the songs is yours.
  • It's All I Do is Win.
  • All I Do is Win.
  • All I Do is Win.
  • Yeah.
  • And I think it's a good vibe song.
  • It gets you going.
  • Yeah, it's a national anthem for winners.
  • Yeah.
  • And, you know, that's the goal, is to make records that are timeless, that play forever, and that play for everyone.
  • Because I represent love and unity.
  • For sure.
  • And that's what I want to do for golf, too.
  • Like, we're going next level.
  • That's where I'm at making this album, is going next level.
  • It's exactly what the Ryder Cup's meant to do.
  • It's meant to inspire people that wouldn't be exposed to the game to come into the game.
  • You know, Italy's not, you know, it's known for its soccer, football, but, you know, golf is still growing there.
  • It's got some great players, but you want to get more juniors, more young kids.
  • That's what I want.
  • I love, because I did, I played with the juniors the other day.
  • They are the next Luke Donalds, Tiger Woods, DJ Khaled.
  • They're the next John Daly's.
  • They're the next, they're the next everything.
  • Nah, it's been beautiful talking to you, brother.
  • I appreciate your time.
  • Thank you for inviting me to your beautiful house.
  • I don't want to say good luck.
  • Be great, because I don't think nothing that we're doing is luck.
  • No. I think it's about hard work.
  • Especially the Ryder Cup.
  • It's the best of the best.
  • So let's go be great.
  • All in our preparation.
  • Let's do it.
  • Ryder Cup.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Let's go golfing.
  • Right down the middle.
  • Let's go.
  • Boom.
