Hey what's up guys and welcome back to the channel.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, the Rebellion reorganized itself, and now the New Republic was the dominant force in the galaxy.

Yet, despite their newfound power, freedom, and resources, the New Republic is already showing cracks, and they've only been in power at this point for around five years.

The ineptitude of the New Republic has been put on full display as they ignore clear signs of Imperial remnants, actually employing former Imperials and Imperial loyalists within their ranks, ignoring the Outer Rim System's cries for help,

And probably worst of all, actively impede the progress of those like Hera who are actually trying to do their job and keep the New Republic safe from threats.

These sorts of problems aren't canon exclusive though, as even in Legends, the New Republic was tied up so much in playing political games that Thrawn nearly had them brought to their knees.

What's most egregious of all these offenses, however, is how they treated Luke Skywalker post the Battle of Endor in canon and Legends.

One might be surprised to hear this, but despite Luke literally being the hero of the Galactic Civil War, there were some tensions between Luke, the Jedi Academy, and the entire New Republic government,

Beginning not too long after the end of the Empire.

At one point, these tensions grew to a level where the New Republic actively tried to oust Luke Skywalker completely.

So, will history repeat itself?

Is in canon the New Republic about to be at odds with the new Jedi Grandmaster?

Well, let's take a look.

Before we begin though, we have had a terrible vision in the Force that some who have visited our channel have not yet subscribed.

There is something distinctly wrong with the state of things in the New Republic in the year 9 ABY.

The toxically cheerful environment of the New Republic bureaucracy does a poor job at hiding their neglect and impotency while completely blinding them to the actual corruption and dark secrets playing out right under their noses.

Not to mention, despite us having spent a lot of time with the New Republic as of recent, we have yet to hear anything about Luke Skywalker or his role in the government.

We received a name drop that Leia is doing work with the Senate to help out Hera and her friends, but no mention of Luke has been made.

When we finally saw Luke Skywalker, he is completely alone on a forested world with only R2-D2 and the worker droids building the temple to keep him company.

Judging by how we saw him living in those few episodes, it appears that he doesn't leave this world very often at all though.

The obvious answer is clear.

Luke is not involved with the New Republic, at least not actively.

This follows Legends continuity quite well, where Luke willingly leaves the New Republic military in pursuit of his Jedi duties and the desire to restart the Jedi Order.

The former rebel leader and the Senate gave Luke their blessing to do so, and that was that.

No longer was he Commander Skywalker, as he renounced all of his titles and military command, giving command of Red Squadron to Wedge as a parting gift.

But the New Republic was waiting for him to leave.

Anytime Luke tried to aid in the Thrawn conflict, it was met with petty resistance.

After Thrawn's attack on the Lando's facility on the world of M'Klon, Luke aided in the defense of the world in his X-Wing, the X-Wing being a parting gift from the New Republic.

However, his ship was damaged in the skirmish, and he wasn't able to get it repaired in enough time, because apparently the New Republic had placed his own X-Wing repair on low priority due to him no longer having any military affiliation.

Luke's X-Wing was now considered a civilian aircraft, and did not have access to the perks that it once had.

Luke had to end up pulling some strings by calling in a favor from Wedge, who was all too pleased to help out his former commander.

Luke's helping hand would continue to meet resistance from such people as the Senator Fae Laia, a Bothan representative in the New Republic Senate who vehemently opposed Admiral Ackbar and the entire military.

The same Senator would go on to play political games in order to get more power and secure more benefits for the Bothan people.

It was even hinted that Fae Laia might have been one of those who had Luke's ship taken off the priority roster.

This specific counselor is important because Senator Xiono is his clear canon counterpart.

Xiono would be the Senator that Hera butted heads with in Episode 3 of Ahsoka.

Although Xiono is not a Bothan, it's clear that he has his own goals and is still getting in the way of our heroes, perhaps even intentionally.

While I'm hesitant to levy the accusation that he is one working with the Empire, I can say that he definitely isn't one that is completely loyal to the New Republic.

As it was pointed out by Hera, he didn't fight in the rebellion and joined the Republic only after they came into power.

But just because one or two Senators have selfish ambitions doesn't necessarily mean that they have it out for Luke Skywalker.

Well, maybe they don't, but the Imperials that are still in power certainly do.

In the eyes of the Imperial Loyalists, Luke is a terrorist and a murderer who killed Vader and their Emperor at the Battle of Endor.

Just like with Legends, they'll stop at nothing to ruin any chance he has at helping better the New Republic.

The Imperial infection that permeates through the ranks of the New Republic is a problem for many reasons, but for the purpose of this video, we are concerned for what happens in Legends.

Sometime after the Yuuzhan Vong War, an Imperial remnant who helped out the New Republic against the Vong would end up joining them and laying on some heavy accusations against Luke Skywalker.

At this time, Jason Solo had become the Sith Lord Darth Caedus and was causing mayhem.

So this Imperial, a woman by the name of Natasi Dala, got herself elected Chief of Alliance State and would arrest Luke for negligence towards Caedus since he eventually fell to the dark side and she wanted to blame Luke.

Because they couldn't capture and arrest Darth Caedus, it was Luke who had to bear his faults and his crimes.

Dala would continue her campaign against Luke's order and even began spreading anti-Jedi sentiment throughout the New Republic, just as happened during the Clone Wars.

This would climax in a dramatic fashion when Dala gained enough support to have Luke basically exiled from New Republic space and the Jedi Order entirely.

She would put one of the Jedi on her payroll to be the Grandmaster in Luke's stead so that she could have full control even over the Jedi.

While I don't believe at this point in time Luke's academy will be taken over by an Imperial figurehead, I can see the Imperial loyalists within the New Republic bureaucracy doing things to mitigate Luke's reach and influence.

In the current state, it is my theory that Luke not only sees the problems that we all see with the New Republic, but perhaps he can sense it as well.

Luke is now wise and very powerful in the Force.

Surely he can feel all the discomfort and malcontent permeating through the New Republic like a bad smell.

Despite being the literal hero of the Galactic Civil War, many in the New Republic still clearly do not trust and maybe even hate the Jedi.

The disillusionment that Darth Caedus spent many years cultivating has clearly still infiltrated the New Republic itself, and Luke alone cannot change their minds.

But Luke senses this.

He senses that he is unwelcome, and that is why he has been largely absent.

It is clear that the New Republic does not trust Ahsoka Tano either, and any that ally with her are instantly put on a watchlist such as Hera.

The amount of those still loyal to the Empire and having anti-Republic sentiments are being allowed to run free without any supervision or control, slowly gaining more power just as Palpatine did.

Luke finds this negligence and disgusting, and this is why he has clearly and willingly separated himself from the New Republic.

We have seen that Luke is watching out for problems where the Republic is not, which is evident with the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, where it was Luke Skywalker's X-Wing to come to their rescue and not anybody else's.

The New Republic failed to respond to Moff Gideon at all, but as for Luke, better late than never.

In Legends, though, and likely as it will pertain to canon as well, the fall of Jason Solo and transformation into Darth Caedus was something that Luke was directly blamed and held accountable for, and this is likely the same thing that will happen in canon with the fall of Ben Solo and creation of Kylo Ren.

With that said, just like Heir to the Empire, I do believe that we will see more of Luke in the future once Thrawn begins his campaign.

It wouldn't make sense for Luke not to be involved in something this huge, especially since he now knows the Empire is alive and well, especially after boarding and destroying Moff Gideon's ship.

If Luke is to help our ragtag band of heroes against the threat of Thrawn, then that would open up several amazing scenarios, one of which would be a long-faded meeting between Luke and Ezra.

But not only this, since Ahsoka has access to the World Between Worlds and has been in full contact with Anakin, perhaps she could set something up to where we could get an important scene between afterlife Anakin and Luke.

These are all hope-filled dreams and speculations as of now though, but one thing is definitely clear, Luke Skywalker and the New Republic do not see eye to eye, which could either spell amazing alliances or devastating destruction.

And just as in Legends, this could prove to be a very dangerous thing for the galaxy.
