  • Hello, kia ora, g'day, I'm Philip Duncan from Weatherwatch TV on YouTube.
  • Thank you for joining us for our Australia only forecast for the rest of this week and the upcoming weekend.
  • Let's kick off with the air pressure and wind maps today, and you can see a large area of high pressure right here over the top of New South Wales, and that is basically squeezing into parts of Queensland as well.
  • Further to the south, low pressure, and that is about to cross over Tasmania and bring some wet weather into Victoria,
  • ACT and some parts of New South Wales.
  • Let's have a look at Tuesday's setup.
  • This is towards the afternoon and you can see that wet cold change coming into Tasmania.
  • Plenty of rain falling along the west coast but also spilling over into other areas.
  • The shading you see here in the yellow and gold, anywhere between twenty and forty millimetres of rain.
  • So that'll be very welcome
  • but I must point out, down around Hobart, not seeing quite as much.
  • Also seeing some good rainfall northeast of Melbourne, obviously up in the hills, the mountains, but some of that will spill over further to the north as well.
  • So that's good for the rivers and streams, not so much in the way of wet weather towards Adelaide, but you've still got some chances of wet weather there.
  • Dry and sunny for the top, and in fact for the top half
  • of Australia for much of this video.
  • I may not mention you very much because most of the energy is happening down here in the south.
  • Even these showers here around coastal parts of southern Western Australia, they'll be moving further inland on Wednesday, thanks to yet another low.
  • So this is a real break in the weather pattern that we had for the first, you know, four or five months of this year.
  • Now we're seeing a bit of a break in the highs and that's producing more wet weather.
  • But on Wednesday this will be a colder southerly change carrying on along the east here there'll be a light dusting of snow or maybe a moderate dusting of snow on the mountains and this wet weather pushing further inland around Western Australia.
  • A couple of remaining isolated showers for some parts of South Australia otherwise pretty dry.
  • South Australia kind of misses out on a lot of these rain events, they're more in the southwest here and the southeast.
  • little bit too far north to get some of these rainmakers like this one here where it sort of dries out for you unfortunately on Thursday and not a lot of wet weather around but the showers carry on.
  • that southwestern corner.
  • Now to Friday and it's a lot drier for most places but this low does just get pretty close into Kangaroo Island and Adelaide itself but again most of the wet weather unfortunately south of you a little bit comes in here but that's a northerly coming down so it's not feeding in as much as you might like
  • And then over towards New Zealand we've got a stormy system driving in this colder southeasterly, showers mostly in the coastal zones of New South Wales and the very eastern side of Victoria.
  • So into the weekend, that weak low moves into places around the Victoria South Australia border, so Mount Gambier will get a little bit of wet weather.
  • Adelaide, you might get a couple of showers and everyone in between gets a few, but not a huge amount.
  • This is a pretty weak system.
  • Dry pretty much elsewhere, although these coastal showers carry on thanks to the stormy system out towards New Zealand.
  • So windy, just offshore blowing in a few showers for you and a very weak front just brushing the southwestern corner of Australia there.
  • And on Sunday, our final map shows a little bit more wet weather in that very, very southwestern corner, a couple of showers or thunderstorms further to the north, maybe a few showers still around Adelaide and some parts of south.
  • Eastern Australia, sorry, calculating that in my head, the southeastern corner of South Australia, still seeing a few showers, but fairly low accumulation.
  • And then we've got still some wet weather here, particularly in the border, where you've had some rough weather already lately, a little bit more of it carries on here for you on Sunday.
  • Just finally, to make sense of all that, the departure from normal, how much wetter or drier is it compared to this time of year in other years?
  • And what you're seeing is a big portion of Australia
  • very dry.
  • You know, five percent your normal rainfall or basically zero percent of your normal rainfall for some of you.
  • But this is looking healthier around Tasmania and Victoria.
  • White is normal rainfall, blue is a little bit wetter than usual.
  • But notice around Hobart, just to the north, still a bit drier than average, still drier than average here as well.
  • And despite the showers and wet weather,
  • A big chunk of Western Australia is still dry.
  • So the forecast might look helpful, but it's still not going to reverse the big dry that we've had across many months of this year so far.
  • That is all from me.
  • Back again on Thursday, we'll dig a little deeper into the rainfall outlook with your seven day rainfall map.
  • So we'll see you again then on Thursday.
