  • Introduction to Video Content
  • Carl Webb, a NRL legend, is not one to back down from a challenge. He exemplified courage on the footy field, and now he is using that same courage in his battle against motor neuron disease (MND). Carl's focus is on helping others who are also living with this incurable disease. Despite the difficulties, Carl remains determined, saying, 'We're fighting this all the way, we haven't given up.'
Carl Webb was known as one of the toughest forwards to ever play in the NRL. However, at the age of 39, his world came crashing down when he was diagnosed with MND. In an interview with A Current Affair a few months later, Carl expressed his current capabilities and independence, but also acknowledged the challenges he will face in the future. Unfortunately, over the past three years, this terrible disease has continued to ravage his body.
MND affects the nerve cells that control movement, speech, breathing, and swallowing. As a result, Carl is now mostly confined to a wheelchair, and his speech is starting to be affected as well. Knowing that his voice will eventually fail him, he is recording it for future use. Carl describes how even simple tasks like drinking from a glass or a bottle have become challenging.
Despite his deteriorating physical condition, Carl's mental strength is what helps him survive each day. He maintains a level of strength that allows him to get out of bed and face the reality of being trapped in a body that no longer functions as it should. Assisting him in this daily battle is his partner Cassandra, who has been by his side for five years. Together, they face the challenges of MND, and Carl admires Cassandra's incredible strength and unwavering support.
Carl Webb's story is one of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. As an NRL legend, he exemplifies the fighting spirit that has made him a true inspiration. His focus on helping others and his unwavering courage in battling MND serve as a reminder to never give up, no matter what challenges life throws our way.
